A short article in Roll Call, a small newspaper that circulates mainly among lawmakers, staffers, newspaper people and other denizens of Capitol Hill, caught our eye the other day. With Congress headed out of town for a month-long recess, it’s relevant.

WASHINGTON–Working women and groups representing them took their case for paid sick and family leave to Capitol Hill on July 30. They drew support from Senate Labor Committee Democrats, but the legislation – thanks to potential GOP filibusters and a jammed congressional schedule after the August recess – may go nowhere in this Congress.

AFSA’s General Executive Board (GEB) met Friday, May 2 in Washington, DC for a day of lobbying on Capitol Hill for AFSA’s Day of Action. The GEB focused on critical federal education legislation, particularly the importance of federal support for principal professional development.
