Remembering September 11

Never Forget

Today, on the 14th Anniversary of September 11, we pause to remember the victims and their families, and we offer our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and heroes who served on that tragic day and thereafter, and to the educators that selflessly risked their safety and well-being to protect their students.

We continue to draw tremendous inspiration through the courageous acts exhibited by those brave educators and first responders. We must use that inspiration to provide the leadership our students, families, and communities need in all aspects of their lives.  And it is vital that we keep sacred in our hearts and in our classrooms the day that forever altered the lives of so many.

We encourage you to participate and attend commemorative events in your area and to share your stories, comments and experiences with us, as well as with your colleagues and students. Although we are facing many great challenges as a nation, we can and will overcome them through our collective strength and unity.

We give a special thanks to all AFSA members and educators for their unwavering service to public school children across the country every day.
