Principal Groups Urge Congress to Fund School Leader Recruitment and Support Program

AFSA, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) sent a joint letter urging Congress to fund the School Leader Recruitment and Support Program (SLRSP).

The SLRSP is the successor to the School Leadership program, and the only federal education program specifically for principals, assistant principals, and other school leaders. It is also the only federal initiative that directly supports the recruitment, preparation, placement, support, and retention of effective principals and other school leaders in high-need schools. This program was authorized under Section 2243 of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The letter urges Congress to work to secure no less than $30 million for FY2017 so that all principals and school leaders are provided with high-quality professional learning and development activities to improve instructional leadership practice.
