SCARBOROUGH, Maine—Rack up another organizing win for National Nurses United. Health care workers at Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough voted 56-40 to join the Maine State Nurses Association, despite the employer’s intense anti-union campaign.

The new unit will represent more than 110 workers, including RNs, licensed clinical social workers, nurses’ aides and housekeepers. “We came together and supported each other so we can make the changes needed for our patients,” RN Pauli Juneau told NNU. Key issues were improved staffing ratios, smaller caseloads and fair wages, NNU reported.
