How the ESSA Affects Your Everyday Work Webinar
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is now gone. The new education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), is the biggest change in K-12 federal education law since NCLB was enacted in 2012.
AFSA’s lobbyist, Jon Bernstein, hosted a webinar explaining how the ESSA affects administrators and their schools including:
- New flexibility for states to create principal evaluation systems that are not based primarily on test scores, and in consultation with principals;
- New opportunities to reduce high stakes assessments and allow more time for student learning;
- New opportunities and funding for school improvement activities that are not overly proscriptive and begin with a needs assessment and capacity analysis;
- New opportunities for schools to access technology to improve learning.
