Golf Program Looks to Give Children Brighter Futures

AFSA  knows that job of an educator is not only to teach academic subjects, but to also foster the personal development of students. The First Tee, a golf program, holds positive personal development in the same high regard as AFSA members do.

The First Tee’s Mission is “to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build characters, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.” The program promotes the values of integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf, facilitated through after school and in school programs.

The non-profit focuses on the highs and lows of golf that closely parallel every day life. Their character-building curriculum works to educate students on how to manage emotions, set goals, resolve conflicts, introduce themselves and communicate with others. In addition, The First Tee applies nine core values, nine healthy habits and their own code of conduct to every lesson.

Impacts of the program are immeasurable, but participants have reported an increased confidence in their academic ability and their social skills as well as their ability to appreciate the diversity in their lives.

With programs throughout the country, The First Tee’s mission touches thousands of children every year. AFSA commends The First Tee and their commitment to the education and development of today’s youth, and their investment in their futures.
