Detroit Public Schools in Danger After Michigan House Passes Education Bills

The Michigan House just passed a set of bills that would decimate the Detroit Public School system. The package includes a lack of necessary funding for the schools, does not restore local control, and would require teachers and school staff to reapply for their jobs.

The Senate has agreed on a package that would allow Detroit to responsibly pay down its debt, restore local control, and allow the contracts of workers to carry over.

If you live in Detroit, contact your representatives that you OPPOSE the House legislation and SUPPORT the Senate package. Click here to write to your local representative.

All members, please sign this petition that urges Gov. Rick Snyder to veto the House bills, and asks the House to take up the bipartisan Senate bills that, while not perfect, give Detroit’s schools a fair chance and offer hope to our students, families, educators and staff. Click here to sign the petition.
