CLUW elects Bryant as president

DETROIT—Longtime Washington-Baltimore News Guild member Elise Bryant, who also directs the Labor Heritage Foundation and the Washington, D.C., Labor Chorus, and who is a former professor at the National Labor College, now wears yet another hat: She’s the new president of CLUW. Coalition of Labor Union Women convention delegates, meeting in Detroit on Sept. 8, elected her to the top job, succeeding Connie Leak of the Auto Workers.

Delegates elected two other new top officers: Carla Insinga, Dauphin County, Pa., Public Employees Council 90 Director, as Executive Vice President, and Joanne Saunders of Indiana IATSE as Recording Secretary. They re-elected Postal Workers Legislative Director Judy Beard as Treasurer and Bennie Bridges of AFGE as Recording Secretary.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the membership of CLUW as president. I am excited about taking on this work with a fabulous group of women who are smart, savvy, and dedicated trade unionists! We shall rally, we shall sing and we shall overcome – together!” Bryant told her executive council.
