AFSA Signs On to NDD Letter Speaking Out Against Potential Sequestration Cuts

AFSA is proud to be one of nearly 3,000 signatures from national, state, and local groups to sign on to a Nondefense Discretionary (NDD) letter sent to all congressional offices and media outlets speaking out against the negative impact that sequestration cuts would have on our country’s well-being. Sequestration cuts would affect core programs that provide:

•    Education and job training
•    Medical and scientific research
•    Infrastructure
•    Public safety
•    Law enforcement
•    Public health
•    Weather monitoring
•    Environmental protection
•    Natural and cultural resources
•    Housing and social services
•    International relations

The letter states, “We strongly urge a balanced approach to deficit reduction that does not include further cuts to NDD programs, which have already done their part to reduce the deficit.”

It is vital that policymakers understand the detriment of such cuts to critical programs like education.
