Greater Detroit Southeastern Michigan Union Community Activist Network puts on the Graduation Banquet annually with the Metropolitan Detroit AFL-CIO and United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s Labor Department. There were 25 local chapters present from 12 different unions, AFSA among them.

The banquet occurred on Saturday, April 5. Radio Show Host Tony Trupaino led the event as master of ceremonies and Michigan Congressman Gary Peters spoke. President Woodard was recognized with the Community Services award for her exceptional work and “for the difference [she’s] made in so many lives by assisting [her] union brothers and sisters,” said Erkeisha Terry, Director of the Labor Department for the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

“The Union Community Activist Network trains union members to help other union members who may be in need,” said Woodard. “I am honored to receive this award because it exemplifies the spirit of unionism. ¬†We are our brothers keeper and no one succeeds unless we all succeed.”

The sleek black award thanked Woodard for “the many years of service dedicated to the labor movement.”
