AFSA Endorses Ras Baraka in May 13 Race for Mayor of Newark, New Jersey

At its recent meeting in Washington DC, the Executive Board of the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) voted to endorse the progressive candidacy of Ras Baraka for mayor in the city of Newark, New Jersey.

Speaking on behalf of the organization, AFSA President Diann Woodard said, “I am very pleased to announce that AFSA has endorsed Ras Baraka in his bid to become the next mayor of Newark, New Jersey.  As the Principal of Central High School in Newark, and as an active member of the City Association of Supervisors and Administrators, AFSA Local 20, Mr. Baraka understands the importance of a sound public educational system.  AFSA members across the United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands wish Mr. Baraka well on election day.  A victory for Ras is a victory for all who support public education.”
