AFGE to Launch Pay Equity Bill

Representing both federal white-and blue-collar workers, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is launching legislation to “produce locality pay equity for the latter group.”

Due to the efforts of Pennsylvania Rep. Matt Cartwright, the establishment of locality pay areas would be the same for both groups. Locality pay areas are the metro areas where the government adjusts federal workers’ pay, taking into consideration the local cost of living.

The AFGE President J. David Cox, a retired VA nurse, thought it would be just common sense. “Hourly and salaried workers travel the same highways, ride the same trains and work in the same buildings. Cartwright’s bill will finally end the practice of treating federal employees in the same work place as if they work in different geographic locations.”
